On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, as per thousands of years old tradition, Naga ascetics and sages took bath in nectar with weapons. The Sangam area echoed with the chants of Har Har Mahadev and Bol Bam. During this time, the devotees were lost in their faith and devotion, and the entire area was filled with religious joy. Naga monks were walking in the procession waving swords and tridents, and there was a unique scene of grandeur at Sangam Ghat, which reflected the historical importance of Mahakumbh.

Royal procession of Akharas

On Tuesday, the saints and officials of Shri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara were the first to reach for bath. Naga monks were leading the procession holding the Dharma flag. He was accompanied by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar, Mahamandaleshwar, and other officials riding on chariots and horses. The presiding deities of the Akhara, Lord Kapil and Adi Ganesh were seated in the palanquin.

Bathing took place as per rituals at the ghat.

First the presiding deity was worshiped and bathed at Sangam Ghat. After this the Naga ascetics took a dip in the Sangam. After bathing, the monks wrapped Bhabhuta on their bodies and performed stunts. Devotees enjoyed Hatha Yoga Kriya and amazing feats of Naga Sannyasis.

Kabir Panthis increased their attraction

Along with Juna Akhara, Kabir Panthis also came to take bath on the banks of Sangam. His group attracted the attention of the devotees by singing Kabir Vani.

Crores of devotees participated in the bathing festival which started from January 13. On January 14, on Makar Sankranti, more than four crore devotees took bath in Amrit. More than three lakh devotees kept taking a dip every hour at Sangam Nose.
