“He’s different from Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid”: Kapil Dev comes to Gautam Gambhir’s defence
India head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing massive flak after the team failed in Australia. Gambhir has lost three series since replacing Rahul Dravid. Sri Lanka defeated the Men in Blue after 27 years in one-day internationals, while New Zealand became the first team to beat India by 3-0 in the Test series.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw the visiting team going down by 1-3. The players have failed to solve their shortcomings, and Gambhir, as a coach, has been ordinary. However, Kapil Dev has come out in his support, saying that it is the job of a captain to lead the team well on the field, and the coach has no role in it.
He also compared Gambhir’s coaching style to Ravi Shastri and Dravid.
“The expectations are high but the coaches don’t play cricket and it is the responsibility of the captain and the players to perform well. A new coach has new ideas and hope it will work in favour of the country,” Kapil Dev said.
Kapil mentioned that Gambhir is a temperamental person and has his ways of working with the players.
“Gambhir is different from Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri. He is a slightly temperamental person and I hope he does better for the country,” he added.
Shastri and Dravid were successful, but Gambhir hasn’t enjoyed success so far.
