Kerala Blasters address fan protests, deny involvement in Police action

New Delhi: Indian Super League team Kerala Blasters have released a statement following fans’ protests outside their stadium which required police intervention. During the Tuskers’ 3-2 win over Odisha FC, fans protested over the strategies deployed by the Kerala team. Despite the nail-biting win, fans continued to protest and police had to ultimately get involved to disperse the crowd and even detained some from the scene.

The club has now spoken over the incident and have said that they were not involved in bringing the state police into action and were involved independently to maintain the law and order. They further said that the actions of the police were from the independent and competent authority who deemed the whole scenario as dangerous.

The statement continued that authorities assessed the urgency and the nature of the situation and acted in response to maintaining decorum at public and ticketed events areas against possible disaster. They maintained that they do understand the rights of the club and welcome opinions to be expressed in a peaceful manner and have never opposed such activities when these demonstrations don’t threaten public safety.

They denied instructing police and authority to carry out any of the actions as have been claimed widely on social media and other public platforms. The club noted that they would be investigating for such “baseless” accusations being spread and take proper actions for “maligning their image”.

They concluded that they are as committed as before to improving fans’ experience and ensuring that they enjoy the game in a safe environment and in an accepting atmosphere for various fan opinions. Kerala Blasters have won just six times from 16 games and are placed 18th this season.
