Gemini feature in Gmail's Android app

Until now, users using Gemini in Gmail's Android app could use an AI chatbot to respond to emails, although Gemini-suggested replies had to be manually added to email drafts. Users either copied text from the Gemini interface and pasted it into an email draft or typed the response themselves. In both these cases, this process was a bit cumbersome and due to this, the use of the answer suggestion feature was limited.

This problem was not in the web version of Gmail, where users have been getting access to the 'Insert' button since last year, but now, as Android Authority reports, the 'Insert' button is finally coming to Gmail. It is also being added to Android app. This update has been included in Android version 2025.01.05.715468168 of Gmail.

The new 'Insert' tool is part of the 'Suggest Answers' feature of Gemini Assistant. This AI platform developed by Google can summarize emails, find information from old emails, and even add events to Google Calendar. This integration with Google Calendar was rolled out late last year.
