Devdutt Padikkal made a unique world record, leaving Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers far behind.
Karnataka's opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal created history with his brilliant innings in the first semi-final match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 played against Haryana at Koutambi Stadium in Vadodara on Wednesday (January 15). Padikkal played an inning of 86 runs in 113 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six for the Karnataka team which came to chase the target.
During this innings, Padikkal also completed his 2000 runs in List A. He has now scored 2063 runs in 31 innings in 50 over cricket at an average of 82.52. He has become the player to score 2000 runs with the highest average in List A cricket. In this list, he left behind legendary players like Ruturaj Gaikwad (58.16), Michael Bevan (57.86), Virat Kohli (57.05) and AB de Villiers (53.47).
This is Padikkal's seventh consecutive fifty plus score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Earlier, he had played innings of 102, 114, 93*, 70, 117, 71* runs respectively. Vijay has equaled his record in terms of scoring fifty plus scores in the most consecutive innings in the history of Hazare Trophy. Earlier, in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 also, Padikkal had scored seven consecutive fifty plus scores.
Padikkal was chosen Player of the Match for his brilliant innings, while in the quarterfinal he played the winning innings of 102 runs in 99 balls.
It is noteworthy that in this match, Karnataka has entered the final by defeating Haryana by 5 wickets. After being invited to bat first, Haryana scored 237 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. In response, Karnataka won by losing 5 wickets in 47.2 overs. Apart from Padikkal, Smaran Ravichandran scored 76 runs in 94 balls.
