2 cups rice
1/4 cup moong dal (peeled)
1 tsp ghee
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 inch ginger (grated)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
1/2 teaspoon celery
4-5 curry leaves
Salt

  • Wash rice and moong dal thoroughly and let them soak in water for 10-15 minutes. This will help soften them and make digestion easier.
  • Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and when the cumin seeds start crackling, add grated ginger, turmeric, asafoetida and celery and fry a little.
  • Now add soaked rice and pulses and also add curry leaves. Mix everything well for a few seconds. Now add 2 cups of water in it and add salt as per taste. Cover and leave it to boil.
  • Let the khichdi cook for 10-15 minutes, until the rice and dal are completely cooked and become soft. If needed, you can add water in between, so that the right amount of water remains in the khichdi.
  • After cooking, take out the khichdi in a serving plate and add some ghee on top and serve it hot.
