Tough tasks for Dehradun admin & police; city to witness big events in coming weeks

Dehradun: The coming few weeks will be challenging for the Dehradun district administration as well as Dehradun police in view of a series of big programs taking place in the city.

The big events like Urban Local Bodies’ (ULB) Elections, Republic Day Parade, opening ceremony of the National Games 2025, and Recruitment examinations are scheduled to take place in the city in the last two weeks of January and first three weeks of February. Tough tasks are ahead for the administration and the police to manage the crowd and traffic movement in the city.

ULB elections to be held on January 23, counting of votes on January 25

While the urban local bodies’ elections will be held on January 23, the counting of votes will take place on January 25. The candidates, who will win elections, are expected to celebrate the victories on the streets of the city soon after the declaration of the poll results. Apparently, additional forces will be deployed to maintain law and order in the city, apart from making security arrangements during the counting of votes.

Republic Day Parade on January 26

A day after the counting of votes, the city will celebrate the Republic Day. The forces will also participate in the Republic Day parade. In the meantime, Recruitment examinations are scheduled to be held on different dates. Forces will be deployed at examination centres in different parts of the city.

Opening ceremony of National Games on January 28, PM Modi will be in the city

The opening ceremony of the national Games 2025 will be held in the city on January 28. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the city to inaugurate the National Games. The state government has also invited chief ministers of all the states to attend the opening ceremony. So, the movement of VIPs in the city will apparently be an extra pressure for the administration and the police. The National Games will continue till February 14.

No lapse in the security system, SSP asked policemen

Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh has already directed the police officers that there should be no lapse in the security arrangements during the process of ULB elections. He also reviewed the security arrangement of the National Games.
