Mohammed Siraj reacts to Sarfaraz Khan’s post amid reports of him leaking dressing room conversation

India pacer Mohammed Siraj commented on his teammate Sarfaraz Khan’s Instagram post on January 17, which featured the popular Punjabi track “Wavy” by Karan Aujla. Sarfaraz, who was part of the Indian squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), had no playing time during the series and watched the action from the sidelines.

“Hayiiiiiiiii pura maholl wayv kardeya” Siraj wrote.

Sarfaraz Khan is under the scanner after reports of him leaking dressing room conversation surfaced. According to News 24, Gautam Gambhir revealed his name in front of captain Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar and the top officials of the BCCI.

India had a strong start to the series, winning the first Test by an emphatic 295-run margin. However, the visitors lost the series 1-3, ending India’s hopes of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the third consecutive time. Despite being in the squad, Sarfaraz Khan did not feature in any of the matches, raising questions about his exclusion.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar voiced his concerns about Sarfaraz’s treatment during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo. He questioned the Indian team’s management for not giving the Mumbai cricketer a chance to play in the 2024-25 BGT. While acknowledging some concerns about Sarfaraz’s technique, Manjrekar felt that it was unfair to judge him without giving him an opportunity.

“Sarfaraz Khan was acknowledged for his exceptional performance in first-class cricket. He got three fifties and a 150 but was terribly dismissed in the next Test. Following that, he was entirely overlooked, I don’t think that’s right, even if you feel Sarfaraz Khan might not succeed on these kinds of pitches.”

Manjrekar further emphasized the importance of offering opportunities to players with strong domestic performances, adding, “What if he had found a way to get runs, with the third man being his main scoring area? His performance against England was truly surprising and impressive. Let’s not try and play God too much. You’ve got to reward people who have got runs.”

Sarfaraz Khan has represented India in six Tests, scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including three fifties and one century. His exclusion from the playing XI in the BGT has sparked ongoing discussions regarding the team’s selection policies.
