Virat Kohli to participate in Delhi’s… Reports make a huge claim

Virat Kohli, Indian cricketer, last played in a Ranji Trophy match in 2012 for Delhi, and there is a strong chance he could turn out in India’s premier domestic tournament next week. According to a report by Cricbuzz on Thursday, it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet that the 36-year-old right-handed batter will play for Delhi in his team’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match against Saurashtra that will start from January 23 but will probably join the Delhi team in Rajkot and practice with the squad even if he is not able to play,” he’d like to say.

Star keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has already informed the Delhi and District Cricket Association officials that he is available for the match and most likely to lead the side.

“We’ll announce the squad tomorrow (Friday), and as of now, we haven’t heard from Virat,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma has been quoted by Cricbuzz.

It is also possible that star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja may turn out for Saurashtra against the visiting Delhi side. Jadeja, who has not had much of a role with the ball in the last three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has come back to India after delaying his departure from Australia to spend some time with family.

“There is hope that the world No. 1 all-rounder will play the match against Delhi,” said a Saurashtra Cricket Association spokesman.

“Yes, there’s always a possibility; however, we still have not heard from him at this moment,” was the message from SCA official.

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Elite Group C match against Punjab at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, there is no clarity over KL Rahul’s availability.

However,KSCA president Raghuram Bhat asserts he knows nothing of Rahul’s participation. Shubman Gill, India’s number three batter, is raring to go for Punjab, and Prasidh Krishna and Devdutt Padikkal can be almost safely presumed to be part of Karnataka’s XI.

India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, trained with Mumbai’s Ranji team on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but the right-handed batsman has not made himself available for the game. Mumbai is to take on Jammu Kashmir in an Elite Group A fixture at Wankhede Stadium from January 23, since 2015 he has not been available to play for the Ranji Trophy for the 40-time champions.

Mumbai has to win the match against the Jammu & Kashmir so that their chance of making the playoff remains alive.
