“There was no Sarfaraz Khan in the meeting”: Former player tells Gautam Gambhir to stop playing blame game
A lot has happened since the Indian team lost to Australia, with reports of rifts among the players doing the round. Gautam Gambhir’s conversation with the players was leaked to media and the former Pakistan batter Basit Ali had reacted to the ongoing stories. He said that such reports would do more harm to Indian cricket and told head coach Gautam Gambhir to sort it out before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
“Sarfaraz Khan was blamed for leaking the dressing room conversation to the media and even the review meeting conversation came out in the open. It is not good for the team as it impacts the team unity. There should not be any blame game and Gautam Gambhir should play a role in stopping it. There was no Sarfaraz Khan in the meeting between the captain, coach, chief selector and the BCCI officials,” he said.
The 54-year-old further said that India need to beat England in the upcoming white-ball series.”If you win against England, it will be better for you ahead of the Champions Trophy, but if you lose, the confidence level will go down,” he added.
Basit mentioned that captain Rohit Sharma, BCCI president Roger Binny, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and the players will have to be on the same page for the betterment of the team. “The four pillars, chairman, selectors, captain, and players will have to come on the same page to create a positive environment. Media plays a key role and even Virat, Rohit, and Gambhir could become targets in the near future.”
