BCCI issues strict rules for Team India; Ban on many things from personal staff, equipment to ad shoots
BCCI New Guidelines: BCCI has issued strict guidelines for the players of Team India. The purpose of which is to increase discipline, streamline the system and promote team unity during domestic and international tours. The new guidelines include travel, baggage limits, family visits and team dynamics. The board has implemented the rules at a time when the team has faced defeat in two back-to-back Test series. Also, there have been reports of discord in the team.

BCCI said, “All players are expected to travel with the team for matches and practice sessions. To maintain discipline and team cohesion, it is not advisable to make separate travel arrangements with families. Exceptions, if any, must be pre-approved by the head coach and chairman of the selection committee.” The Board has also stated that restrictions on individual staff on tours/series Individual staff (e.g., personal managers, chefs, assistants and security) should be banned on tours or series unless explicitly approved by the BCCI . This ensures that the team remains focused on operations and minimizes logistics challenges. This should be ended.
“Excess Baggage Limit Players are required to adhere to the specified baggage limit shared with the team. The cost of any additional accessories will have to be borne by the individual player. This policy helps in streamlining logistics and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

Players – 5 pieces (3 suitcases + 2 kit bags) or up to 150 kg. Support Staff – 2 pieces (2 large + 1 small suitcase) or up to 80 kg.
Short term visits (less than 30 days):
Players – 4 pieces (2 suitcases + 2 kit bags) or up to 120 kg. Support Staff – 2 pieces (2 suitcases) or up to 60 kg.
Home Series:
Players – 4 pieces (2 suitcases + 2 kit bags) or up to 120 kg. Support staff – 2 pieces (2 suitcases) or up to 60 kg.”

Players must adhere to these limits, the cost of any excess luggage will be borne by the individual. The presence of personal staff like managers, chefs, assistants and security personnel is prohibited in the tour and series. Any exceptions require explicit permission from BCCI. The aim of this measure is to keep the team focused and reduce logistics complications.
BCCI said in a statement, “Restrictions on personal staff in tours/series – Restrictions on personal staff (e.g., personal managers, chefs, assistants and security) in tours or series should be banned unless explicitly approved by the BCCI. This will ensure that the team remains focused on operations and logistical challenges are minimized. – This must be ended.”
Players should coordinate with the team management regarding transfer of equipment or personal items to the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. Any costs incurred due to different arrangements will be the responsibility of the player. BCCI said, “Sending bags separately to the Center of Excellence Players should coordinate with the team management regarding equipment and personal items being sent to the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. Any additional costs incurred due to differing arrangements will be the responsibility of the player.”
The family travel policy has been created to strike a balance between the personal well-being of players and team commitments. Players who are out of India for more than 45 days during overseas tours are eligible to take their partners and children (under 18 years) with them once in each series, for a maximum period of two weeks. BCCI will bear the cost of shared accommodation with the player during the period of the visitors, while all other expenses will have to be borne by the player. Trips must be coordinated to occur at the same time with dates agreed upon by the coach, captain, and GM Operations. Any exceptions to this policy must be pre-approved by the Coach, Captain and GM Operations, and additional expenses beyond the period of visitors will not be borne by the BCCI.

The Family Travel Policy ensures a balance between players' personal well-being and team commitments:

* Eligibility: Players who are absent from India for more than 45 days during overseas tours along with their partner and children (under 18 years) are included for one tour of up to two weeks duration per series (as per format) May go.
* Provision: BCCI will bear the expenses of shared accommodation with the player for the duration of the visitors period. All other expenses will have to be borne by the player.
* Coordination: Tours must be scheduled at the same time during dates agreed by the coach, captain and GM operations.
*Exception: Any deviation from this policy must be pre-approved by the coach, captain and GM operations. Additional expenses outside the visitors period will not be borne by BCCI.
Players are required to remain with the team until the scheduled end of the match series or tour, even if the matches end ahead of schedule. This ensures team unity, bonding and team dynamics.
The BCCI policy states, “If matches end early, players returning home are required to remain with the team until the scheduled end of the match series or tour, even if the matches end prematurely. “This ensures unity, increases team bonding and does not disrupt team dynamics.”
