New Delhi:- The government has made arrangements for Fastag to collect toll tax on National Highways and Expressways so that people save time and bring transparency in the system. There are complaints of irregularities in this also. In the last few months, cases of companies deducting charges from Fastag incorrectly have increased. Some people have also complained about unauthorized deduction from Fastag by tagging the concerned banks on social media.
According to media reports, a large number of customers have complained about excessive charges being deducted, after which the companies providing Fastag services had to return lakhs of rupees. According to the report, many customers have asked for the money back through written complaints and between September and November 2024, money had to be returned in more than four lakh cases.
NPCI monitors Fastag related transactions and also investigates customer complaints. According to the report, the companies providing Fastag service had accepted 1.73 lakh complaints related to wrong toll deduction in September last year. Admitting irregularities in fee deduction, the companies also returned the money to the complainants.
According to the report, 12 companies associated with the banking sector provide Fastag service. Customers mostly use Fastang of IDFC First Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and Axis Bank. These four banks have received the highest number of complaints.
