India’s campaign at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025 came to a close as the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were defeated by Malaysia’s world no. 2 duo, Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei, in the semifinals of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall on Saturday.

Despite a strong start, the Indian duo, making a return to the BWF circuit after Satwik’s injury, struggled to counter their opponents’ tactics towards the end of both games. They lost 21-18, 21-14 in 37 minutes.

Next, Goh and Izzuddin will face Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, who triumphed over Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 22-20, 21-19.

In Sunday’s finals, Olympic champion An Se Young of South Korea will face Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in the women’s singles final. Meanwhile, French duo Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue will compete for their first Super 750 title against second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin of China. The women’s doubles final will feature eighth seeds Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong of South Korea against Japan’s Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto.

The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was filled with anticipation for another strong performance from Satwik and Chirag. The world no. 9 duo, who had reached the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 the previous week, started well and led 15-12 in the first game. However, Goh and Izzuddin applied pressure at the net, leading to errors from the Indian pair. The Malaysians won seven straight points to claim the first game.

In the second game, the Indians fell behind early, losing eight of the first 10 points. Despite a brief comeback with five consecutive points, Goh and Izzuddin dominated, exploiting the Indian duo’s serve and not allowing them to recover, sealing the win with quick points and tactical smashes.

“I think we should have closed down in the first game but credit to them they were really good in the service situations, which we didn’t really expect because probably we didn’t prepare for it. Having said that, we should have been little more calmer,” said Chirag.
