There is a need to pay attention to the health of children amid increasing cases of myopia.
Recent studies have shown that myopia has now become a serious problem. According to a study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, nearly one-third of urban Indian children aged 5 to 15 may suffer from myopia by 2030. The main reason behind this is bad lifestyle and use of screen for a long time. Research has also shown that the rate of myopia in India may reach 49% by 2050, which can become a serious problem.
Myopia is a common eye problem in which a person sees distant objects blurry, but nearby objects can be seen clearly. This problem affects children more. In some cases, it may also be due to genetic reasons.
Myopia: the problem and its causes
In myopia, distant objects are not visible clearly. In this situation it is advisable to wear glasses or contact lenses. However, the cases of this problem are continuously increasing and there is a lack of awareness about it. Pediatric Ophthalmological Society of India and ENTOD Pharmaceuticals have launched a campaign to spread awareness about myopia, under which more than 3 crore parents, teachers and children will be aware about myopia.
Lack of awareness about myopia
Pediatric ophthalmologist Dr. explains that parents should be cautious about the health of their children's eyes. To prevent myopia, it is important to have regular eye exams and limit screen exposure. If children use screens for a long time, the risk of myopia may increase. Therefore, children should limit the use of phones and laptops and do not give them to them without any reason.
Myopia prevention and treatment measures
Myopia can be treated by wearing glasses or contact lenses. If this does not provide relief, myopia can be cured by laser surgery. In some cases, corneal surgery is also performed. However, myopia can be controlled, for this it is important to have regular eye examinations and reduce the use of screens.
