LSG’s Captain Mystery:IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has announced a special press conference on Monday, which will be held at the RPSG headquarters in Kolkata. There are intense discussions regarding this conference that the team can announce its new captain.

Although the agenda of the press conference has not been revealed by the franchise, it is being speculated that either the name of the captain will be revealed, or the new jersey of the team will be unveiled. LSG owner and RPSG Group Chairman Sanjiv Goenka will address this conference.

Preparation for change after missing the playoffs

The LSG team, which reached the playoffs in the 2022 and 2023 seasons of IPL, remained in seventh place due to poor performance in 2024. Due to lagging behind in net run rate, the team had to be out of the playoffs for the first time. After this disappointing performance, the franchise has planned changes.

Rishabh Pant can be the new captain

LSG surprised everyone in the mega auction last year by buying Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore. Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history. DC released him before the retention deadline, ending his nine-year association.

Pant is being considered the biggest contender for the captaincy of LSG. He was the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) from 2021 to 2024. However, he missed the 2023 season due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

Other captaincy options also available

Apart from Rishabh Pant, the name of West Indies' explosive batsman Nicholas Pooran is being mentioned prominently among the other contenders for captaincy. Puran has been retained by LSG for Rs 21 crore. Apart from this, South Africa's T-20 captain Aiden Markram and Australia's T-20 captain Mitchell Marsh are also possible options. Puran also captained the team during a match in the 2024 season.

Zaheer Khan became the new mentor

LSG had appointed former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as the mentor of the team in August 2024. Zaheer has previously served as Director of Cricket and Head of Global Development with Mumbai Indians.

hope for a new beginning

This time the aim of LSG is that the team should improve its performance and once again join the race for the playoffs. Both the name of the new captain and the unveiling of the new jersey can happen in Monday's press conference. Many players of the franchise will also be present on this occasion.

It will be interesting to see what major changes team owner Sanjiv Goenka announces. Will Rishabh Pant take command of the team, or will a new face take the responsibility of captaincy? This question will now be cleared only on Monday.
