Mumbai: The Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on January 13, is anticipated to draw 45 crore devotees and tourists, marking it as one of the largest gatherings worldwide. To accommodate the millions of pilgrims travelling to Prayagraj for this grand spiritual event, Indian Railways has commenced operations of 49 special trains starting today, January 19, 2025; linking Prayagraj with various cities across the country.
These trains, connecting Prayagraj with cities across India, are part of the larger effort to run over 13,000 trains, including 3,000 special trains, during the grand spiritual event.
With the Maha Kumbh Mela already drawing record-breaking crowds since its commencement on January 13, these special trains provide direct connectivity to Prayagraj from major cities such as Delhi, Gaya, Visakhapatnam, and Amritsar.
Indian Railways has also introduced several passenger-friendly measures, including mobile ticketing, tent accommodations, and unreserved ticket counters, to ensure a comfortable travel experience.
Indian Railways’ Maha Kumbh Initiatives
To accommodate the immense influx of pilgrims, Indian Railways has implemented extensive measures, including the introduction of over 13,000 trainsof which 3,000 are special trainsduring the Maha Kumbh period. These efforts aim to provide direct connectivity to Prayagraj from various regions across India.
Additional arrangements include a tent city by IRCTC, mobile ticketing machines for issuing tickets at shelters and waiting rooms, and the setup of 554 unreserved ticket counters. Reserved trains are also operating from 50 long-distance citiesensuring better access for devotees.
