After which the fuel released from the truck caught fire and a massive explosion occurred. So far 70 people are reported to have died in this accident, while about 56 people are said to be injured.

According to media reports, more than 70 bodies have been recovered after the accident. 56 people have been injured. More than 15 shops have been destroyed due to this horrific accident. “The injured are being taken to hospitals for treatment, every possible effort is underway to treat them,” the National Emergency Management Authority said in a statement. According to the authority's Hussaini Isa, the blast was caused by a fuel transfer, resulting in the death of those transferring gasoline and bystanders.
Regarding the accident, Niger Governor Mohammed Bago said in a statement, “Many residents in the Dikko area of the state were caught in the massive fire while trying to remove fuel from a gasoline tanker. Bago said, “Many people burnt to death. Those who were not so close to the tanker survived despite being injured. Called this incident worrying, heartbreaking and unfortunate.”

Kumar Tsukwam, the country's Federal Road Safety Corps sector commander, said, “People were being stopped from going closer. Earlier in September, a tanker filled with petrol had exploded on a busy highway in Niger. At least 48 people were killed in this.
