Two reasons of Discussions between Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir that caused Delay in Champions Trophy 2025 squad Announcement
The announcement of India’s squad for Champions Trophy squad was scheduled to begin in a press conference from 12:00 PM IST. However, there was a long delay. It has been reported that Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Ajit Agarkar were in a discussion on place of Sanju Samson.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) delayed the announcement of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad. The press conference was in Mumbai, schedule to begin 12:00 PM IST. However, the announcement was delayed, where it was later learnt that Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were doing a meeting, which resulted in a long delay.
According to a report, there were a couple of topics which led to discussions between captain Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The first one was for the post of vice-captain, which was given to Shubman Gill. Gambhir was favouring Hardik Pandya for the post. However, both Rohit and Agarkar were fine with Gill.
For the wicketkeeper, Gambhir again wanted to go with Sanju Samson because of his recent success in T20I format. However, Rohit and Agarkar wanted to go with Rishabh Pant. These were the discussions that caused the delay in the announcement.
Indian team will play their Champions Trophy 2025 opening clash against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Apart from India’s matches, Dubai will also host one of the semifinals, and the venue for the final will depend on India’s performance.
