Harbhajan Singh raised questions on not including the powerful batsman in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy.
Delhi: Former veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has criticized the selectors for not including Karun Nair in the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Harbhajan questioned the importance of domestic cricket and said that when players are not selected on the basis of their performance and form, then what is the use of playing domestic cricket.
Let us tell you that Nair recently showed excellent form and scored the most runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He scored 779 runs in eight innings at an incredible average of 389.50 and strike rate of 124.04. During this period, Nair scored five centuries and one half-century. His performance caught the attention of selectors and cricket fans, after which many demanded his place in the Champions Trophy team.
However, 33-year-old Karun did not get a place in the 15-member team. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Nair's performance was taken into account, but it is difficult to make a place in the team at the moment. He also said that Nair has been kept ready as a backup and if any player gets injured or loses form, Nair can be given a chance.
Expressing his displeasure over the decision, Harbhajan wrote on
It is noteworthy that Nair made his Test debut against England in 2016 and created history by scoring a triple century in his third Test. He became the second player from India to do so. However, after this Nair's performance declined and he was dropped from the team after the 2018 England tour.
Is there a point playing Domestic cricket when you don’t pick players based on form & performance ? #KarunNair
