Good news for Rishabh Pant after selection in Champions Trophy
The Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2025 has been announced, and Rishabh Pant has also been selected in the Rohit Sharma-led Team India. There was some doubt about Pant's selection, as Sanju Samson was giving him tough competition. But now after making a place in the Champions Trophy squad, another good news has come for Rishabh Pant. Pant may get a big responsibility of captaincy, and this responsibility may not be of Team India, but of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL. LSG may make its official announcement soon.
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Rishabh Pant is likely to be made the captain of Lucknow Super Giants before IPL 2025. Pant became the most expensive player of IPL in the mega auction of November 2024, who was bought by LSG for Rs 27 crore.
According to reports, the new captain of LSG can be officially announced on January 20. RPSG Group Chairman Dr. Sanjiv Goenka is scheduled to announce the captain of Lucknow Super Giants at a special press conference in Kolkata on January 20.
Lucknow Super Giants was captained by KL Rahul in the first three seasons. Under Rahul's captaincy, the team reached the playoffs twice, but they could never play the title match. The 2024 season was a disappointing season for LSG, as they finished seventh in the points table.
After this performance, Rahul and LSG parted ways. KL Rahul has been included in their team by Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore, although the chances of getting the captaincy in DC are less, as the franchise is trusting Axar Patel.
Rishabh Pant, who has been with Delhi Capitals since 2016, took up the captaincy opportunity for the first time in IPL 2021. Except for the 2023 season, he has taken charge of the team in every season. Now his eyes are on helping Lucknow Super Giants win the IPL title.
