Will Ravindra Jadeja play for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy match against Delhi? Know complete information here
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to play in Saurashtra's Ranji Trophy clash against Delhi from January 23 after joining the team's practice session in Rajkot on Sunday.
Jadeja last played for Saurashtra in January 2023.
After the Australia tour, the BCCI made it mandatory for players to participate in domestic cricket unless the player is unavailable due to injury.
Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah told PTI on Sunday, “Jadeja has come for training today. He will play the next match.”
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is struggling with poor form in Australia, has confirmed his availability for Mumbai's next Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. Players like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will also play for their respective teams.
Pant will be a part of Delhi's playing eleven against Saurashtra, while Indian superstar Virat Kohli will miss the game due to injury.
Jadeja was included in the Champions Trophy squad on Saturday. The left-hander had retired from T20 Internationals after winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados last year.
Saurashtra has not had a good Ranji Trophy season, scoring only 11 points from five matches, including two losses and as many draws. Their only win came against Chandigarh.
After the Champions Trophy squad was announced on Saturday, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had talked about the importance of the national cricketers playing domestic cricket.
“I don't think this is an order. This is one of the things that the BCCI has clearly put forward. But as I said, I mean, as selectors, we expect people to play when they are available because that will strengthen our domestic set-up,” Agarkar had said.
“Not just for his form or his fitness and playing cricket, but it will strengthen our domestic structure. So, when time permits, we expect everyone to play.”
