JEE and Boards Together? Here’s how you can balance both exams like a pro
New Delhi: As the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and the Class 12 board exams are just around the corner, students preparing for both exams are often under a challenging schedule. The key to be successful in both exams lies in meticulous planning, time management, focused approach and patience.
Balancing boards and JEE preparation is undoubtedly very demanding but at the same time, it is achievable with the right strategy. With the efforts of the students aligned systematically, students can excel and get the desired result. Below are a few strategies which can help students to effectively balance the preparation.
Understand the Overlap
One of the advantages for the students of the science stream is the overlap between the syllabus of the board exam and JEE Main. Students need to understand the fundamentals from NCERT textbooks and strengthen the concepts. This will help in scoring high on boards and also crack the JEE Main.
Create a Balanced Study Schedule
One must divide the study time between the subjects of the board exam and JEE Main preparation. As only a few days are left for JEE, so students now need to give more time to JEE and alongside also prepare for the boards. More time needs to be allocated to the topics closer to the exam dates. The practice needs to be inconsistent. For example, now dedicate 8 to 9 hours of study time to JEE problem-solving and 5 to 6 hours to revising theoretical concepts for board exams.
Prioritize Important Topics
High-weightage chapters common to both exams such as mechanics in Physics, algebra in Mathematics and organic chemistry need to be prioritised as the concentration in these areas will give maximum results in both papers. One must regularly practice the previous years’ board exam papers and JEE Main mock tests.
Time Management
Effective time management is important for balancing board exams and JEE Main. Students can break study sessions into smaller and focused intervals such as 45 minutes of study followed by a 10-minute break. Include time for relaxation, as overworking can lead to burnout. One can practise time-bound mock tests as it will help to improve speed and efficiency, enabling one to perform well in both papers.
Utilise Effective Resources
For board exams, the NCERT books and reference materials are recommended by teachers. For JEE Main, one can go through advanced guides, question banks and online mock tests. The right resources ensure better preparation without getting overwhelmed.
