Central government appointed 1991 batch IPS GP Singh as DG of CRPF, ACC approved the proposal of Home Ministry.
New Delhi. The Central Government has appointed Gyanendra Pratap Singh as the new Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). According to the departmental order issued late on Saturday night, the proposal of the Union Home Ministry was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). This order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). It is written in the order that the ACC has approved the proposal of the Home Ministry in which 1991 batch IPS GP Singh of Assam cadre has been appointed as the Director General of CRPF.

Gyanendra Singh was earlier holding the command of Assam Police Chief. Now he will serve as the chief of CRPF. He is scheduled to retire on 31 January 2027. The new CRPF DG GP Singh has previously served in important positions like Special Protection Group (SPG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA). Apart from this, he has also worked on many senior positions in Assam Police.
Let us tell you that last month the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had handed over the additional charge of DG of CRPF to 1993 batch IPS officer Vitul Kumar. The then DG Anish Dayal Singh retired on 31 December. The CRPF is India's largest paramilitary force with approximately 300,000 personnel. The force is involved in counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir, counter-insurgency operations in the North-East and anti-Naxal operations in states affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).
The coming year is important for CRPF. This force is playing an important role in the efforts of the Central Government to eliminate Naxalites in Chhattisgarh. The task is to complete this target by March 2026. At present, more than 40,000 CRPF personnel are deployed in Chhattisgarh.
