Ho Chi Minh City’s Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line will operate until 2 a.m. on Lunar New Year’s Day to accommodate festive travel for locals and tourists, the HCMC Department of Transport announced.
The department outlined extended service hours for Tet festivities. From Jan. 24 to 28, the line will run daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., an hour longer than its usual schedule.
On Jan. 29, the first day of the Lunar New Year, service will stretch from 0:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. to support revelers celebrating New Year’s Eve. Normal operations will resume with adjusted hours from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, running 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition to the extended metro schedule, city officials plan fireworks displays at 15 locations—seven more than in previous years, as well as light shows and entertainment to enliven public spaces during the holiday.
The Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien line, which began operations on Dec. 22 last year, currently runs nine trains daily at intervals of 8–12 minutes. While the service remains free of charge for passengers, fares will take effect starting Jan. 21.
The upcoming Tet holiday spans nine days, from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2.
