VIJAYAWADA: Emphasising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for the development of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah highlighted that the Centre has approved projects totalling over Rs 3 lakh crore for the State in the last six months.

As part of his two-day tour to Vijayawada, he addressed a gathering on the 20th Raising Day of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) at Kondapavuluru in Krishna district on Sunday. He also inaugurated the southern campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the NDRF’s 10th Battalion campus near Vijayawada. Additionally, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various projects worth approximately Rs 220 crore.

Shah remarked, “Today, I can say with confidence that NDRF’s implementation of NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) policies on the ground has played a pivotal role in positioning India as a global leader in disaster management. India has taken the lead worldwide in disaster-resilient infrastructure by setting up CDRI (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure).”

Backed by resilient infrastructure in the area of disaster management, India has emerged as a global leader in the sector by adopting a ‘zero casualty’ goal during calamities, he said, and explained that the approach to disaster management has shifted from being relief-centric to ‘rescue-centric’ in order to save lives during calamities. In such a short span of time, NDRF has established itself as a credible organisation not only within India but also globally, he added.Union Home Minister Amit Shah goes round the NIDM new building at the 10th NDRF Battalion after inaugurating it at Kondapavuluru on Sunday | Express

Lashing out at the YSRCP, Shah stated that Andhra Pradesh suffered significant setbacks in the past five years due to the mismanagement of the previous government. He added that while the NDRF responds during natural disasters, the NDA steps in to assist the people during “man-made” crises.

The Union Minister stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu are working together to drive growth in Andhra Pradesh and make up for the losses incurred under the previous YSRCP regime. “Naidu is propelling the State forward through sound administrative, financial, and developmental strategies, while PM Modi has facilitated investments and aid exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore for the State in the past six months,” he said.

Shah also pointed out that the Union Cabinet recently approved a financial package of Rs 11,000 crore to revive the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, aiming to preserve its status as a symbol of pride for AP. Regarding the Amaravati capital city project, Shah noted that while the previous government neglected the ambitious initiative, the Centre has facilitated loans of Rs 27,000 crore through HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation) and the World Bank, in line with Naidu’s vision.

“This is our commitment to Andhra Pradesh,” he asserted.

The Union Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone for the new ‘Integrated Shooting Range’ at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad and inaugurated the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory building in Tirupati.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and NDRF Director General Piyush Anand were present.
