Bangladesh crowd target star cricketer for being Hindu, called ‘fake’ and ‘garbage’ with racial slurs, watch viral video
Star cricketer was targetted racially in a viral video by Bangladesh crowd for being a Hindu during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 match.
Litton Das is one of the finest batters to come out of Bangladesh. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper has scored 2,788 runs in 48 Tests, 2,569 runs in 94 ODIs and 2,020 runs in 95 T20 matches till date. In most countries, he will be adored for his achievements on the cricket field but not in Bangladesh.
The dashing batter is being targeted because of his religion, since he is one of the rare cricketers from his country who is Hindu. Bangladesh’s accomplished wicketkeeper-batsman, Litton Das, faced jeers from cricket fans during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 in Chittagong. While fielding near the boundary, fans chanted racial slur ‘bhuya’ which could either mean ‘fake’ or ‘garbage’, while pointing at him. Das remained silent but continued to glance at the agitated crowd. A video capturing the incident quickly went viral.

Bangladeshi fans hooted Bangladeshi cricketer Litton Das with “Bhua-Bhua” slogans.
“Bhua” means garbage, Islamists use it as a slur against Hindus in Bangladesh. If they can do this to a national team member, imagine the condition of common Hindus.

Some social media users linked the incident to recent reports of minority persecution, particularly targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. The incident reportedly occurred during the Dhaka Capitals vs Fortune Barishal match, where Litton Das represented the Dhaka Capitals.
In response, Dhaka Capitals extended their support to Das, posting on their Facebook page: “You may see a blurred video of someone being booed; we see a national hero who smashed the fastest century in BPL history and was part of a record-breaking partnership.
“You see criticism; we see a star batter who holds Bangladesh’s highest individual ODI score and the country’s best Test batting rank. You see obstacles; we see history being created. Litton, you are a symbol of our love. You are our pride,” the post further stated.
Acknowledging the support, Litton Das responded, “Truly touched by this wonderful gesture from my team, Dhaka Capitals. Thank you to everyone who supports me and all athletes, through every high and low. Your belief means the world to us.”
Notably, Litton Das has not been included in Bangladesh’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to his poor form with the bat. Bangladesh are in Group B in the Champions Trophy and will open their campaign against Team India on February 20 in Dubai.
