Rishabh Pant made fun of Punjab Kings, said as soon as he became the captain of LSG – there was tension – Read

The rivalry between some teams in the Indian Premier League is quite famous. Be it Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings or Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the matches between these teams often see exciting action. Besides, the fans of these teams also keep clashing with each other on social media. Now in IPL 2025, one should not be surprised if this rivalry is seen forming between Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants because the new Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant has taken a dig at Punjab in his very first statement.

In the IPL mega auction held in November, Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants with an astonishing bid of Rs 27 crore. In this way Pant also became the most expensive player in IPL history. Just before Pant, this record was held for some time in the name of Shreyas Iyer, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore in the same mega auction. Due to Iyer going to Punjab, Lucknow had a chance to buy Pant and the franchise was successful in it.

Made fun of Punjab as soon as he became captain

Ever since Pant’s arrival in Lucknow, it was considered certain that the franchise would make him its new captain and on Sunday, January 20, it was confirmed. Franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka announced this in a show on Star Sports. Pant was also present in the same show and it was here that he made fun of Punjab and took a jibe at them. Pant said, “I had only one tension and that was Punjab. He had the biggest purse, Rs 112 crore. When Punjab bought Shreyas Iyer, I felt that I can go to LSG. Anything can happen in the auction so I thought it better to just wait and pray.”

Pant reached Lucknow after Delhi

Pant started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals in 2016 and was a part of this franchise since then. He also took command of the team here in 2021 and despite missing the 2023 season due to an accident, he returned in 2024 and again became the captain of the team. Despite this, no agreement was reached between Delhi and Pant regarding retention and both parted ways. Only after this Lucknow bought Pant.
