India is at the forefront in terms of technological development – WEF report
DAVOS Davos: In an era defined by technological advances, India stands at the forefront as one of the world's fastest-growing economies and a global hub for startups and digital innovation, the World Economic Forum said on Monday. In India Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) India, the Liaison Office of the World Economic Forum (WEF), launched its 6-Year Impact Journey Report on the opening day of the WEF Annual Meeting 2025.
WEF said its partnership with India dates back more than 40 years. Over the last four decades, the relationship has grown from a strong partnership with the national government, several state governments, business leaders from key industries and other key stakeholders including civil society and leading experts , has evolved into multidimensional and meaningful collaboration, resulting in several impactful initiatives that have advanced shared priorities.
The report's foreword states that India's advocacy and pursuit of a development model where technology acts as a bridge rather than a barrier is highly relevant and the Forum aims to provide a platform for a more human-centred, planet-friendly and resilient future. Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) India was launched in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to harness emerging technologies responsibly and inclusively for the betterment of society. It was launched as a statement of the country's commitment to use it effectively.
Today, C4IR India is not only a hub of innovation; It is a key focus of the World Economic Forum that exemplifies an approach to technology-driven development with impactful, on-the-ground results, the Forum said. As C4IR India enters the next phase of its journey, the new report highlighted key milestones and emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in scaling up technologies to address complex developmental challenges.
C4IR India said its achievements include AI-powered agriculture programs that increase farmers' income, healthcare solutions that provide access to life-saving services, and sustainable urban development frameworks that improve the quality of life in cities. It said these initiatives have been made possible through strong partnerships across the public and private sectors, academia and civil society, with a focus on creating practical solutions based on responsible governance.
“Over the last six years, C4IR India has emerged as a leading center for multi-stakeholder collaboration and has improved the lives of 1.25 million citizens through better livelihoods and improved access to healthcare. and has pioneered Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies in aviation, setting a benchmark for transformational progress. As C4IR India continues to expand, it now has the exciting potential to create sustainable value for society. The focus is on cutting-edge areas such as AI, climate technology and space technology,” said Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director, World Economic Forum.
