Sealdah Court did not consider the RG tax case as the rarest of the rare case.
New Delhi. The court has not considered the RG Kar Medical College case as the rarest of the rare case, which is why the convict Sanjay Roy has been sentenced to life imprisonment instead of death sentence. CBI had demanded death penalty for the culprit. Sealdah Court's Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das has directed the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal to pay Rs 17 lakh as compensation to the family members of the deceased doctor. Sanjay Roy declared himself innocent in the court before being sentenced.
Earlier on Saturday, when the Sealdah court had convicted Sanjay Roy, he had declared himself innocent. Sanjay Rai had claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case and had denied any involvement in the case. Sanjay Roy had also alleged that he was being framed to save those who had committed this act. Let us tell you that on the night of 8-9 August 2024, a female doctor was raped and murdered in RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. On August 13, the investigation of this case was handed over to CBI.

At the same time, when convict Sanjay Roy was sentenced to life imprisonment, Union Minister Sukant Majumdar said, we cannot say anything on the court's order but we wanted the convict to get death penalty. However, that did not happen in court. On the court's direction to the state government to give Rs 17 lakh to the victim's family, he said that I do not think the victim's family wants the money. The people of Bengal do not think that only one person was involved in this, there should be further investigation. The court should have said that the people named by Sanjay as accused in the case should be investigated.
