Urfi Javed stands up for Jasleen amid singing criticism

Indian singer Jasleen Royal broke the record for being the first Indian artist to open a concert for the internationally acclaimed band Coldplay with the lead singer Chris Martin at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

The self-made singer and runner-up of Indian Idol shared a video on Instagram, describing it as a memorable night in her career. However, instead of praise, her video became a social media troll.

The day after Jasleen Royal’s performance at Coldplay’s concert, social media users trolled her for being “out of tune” and seemingly inappropriate as the opening act for such a high-profile event.

Renowned Indian music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani also came forward to make a statement about the matter indirectly through an Instagram story without naming Jasleen. He said, “A basic singer’s out-of-tune opening act at a global-level concert has tarnished the reputation of Indian singers and music worldwide. This is an embarrassment for the entire nation.” Most of the social media users perceived the post to be related to Jasleen and supported the statement made by Vishal.

Amid the onslaught, social media influencer and a fashion statement unto herself Urfi Javed came forth in defense of Jasleen with an Instagram story: “Actually, I have believed in backing up and upraising talent because, for sure, Jasleen has got such an opportunity as an independent solo performer to sing for Coldplay at least once-what a mammoth achievement.”

Urfi further appreciated Jasleen, saying, “Jasleen is an exceptionally talented artist, and we have all loved her work over the years. Let’s support and appreciate our artists.” She concluded by addressing Jasleen directly, saying, “My support is always with you.”

Jasleen, who often shares videos and pictures of her performances on Instagram, has not yet responded to the trolling or criticism on social media.
