Reports suggest that Nita Ambani once boarded her private jet to Sri Lanka to purchase an impressive 25,000 pieces of kitchenware from the prestigious Japanese brand Noritake. Known for her impeccable taste, Nita selected these exquisite pieces of chinaware, featuring 22-carat gold or platinum trims, to complement her luxurious high-rise home. This 106-year-old brand is renowned globally for its fine porcelain craftsmanship, reflecting the elegance and sophistication that define Nita Ambani’s lifestyle.
According to a 2010 report by The Economic Times, Nita Ambani’s substantial order of 25,000 Noritake pieces wasn’t placed at the exclusive showroom in Mumbai’s Kemps Corner, located near the Ambani residence. Instead, she opted to make the purchase in Sri Lanka, where Noritake products are 70–80% more affordable. This price advantage stems from the fact that the Japanese brand’s largest manufacturing facility is based in Sri Lanka, which also functions as an export hub for its fine china to over 100 countries.
According to a 2010 report by The Economic Timesin Sri Lanka, a 50-piece Noritake dinner set embellished with 22-carat gold or platinum trimmings is priced between $300 and $500. In comparison, the same set costs significantly more in India, ranging from $800 to $2,000, highlighting the cost advantage of purchasing directly from Sri Lanka.
