Vietnam is Ford’s biggest Southeast Asian market
Ford sold 42,175 vehicles in Vietnam last year, making the country its top market in Southeast Asia.
It was the highest ever for the U.S. company since it entered the Vietnamese market 30 years ago and marked a 10% increase from 2023.
Ruchik Shah, CEO of Ford Vietnam, said at a press conference in HCMC earlier this month that he expected sales to continue growing in the coming years.
The company sold around 20,800 vehicles in Thailand in 2024, where it has a manufacturing plant for exporting to the region.
Ford was not even one of the 10 top brands in Indonesia. Thailand and Indonesia are the two largest markets in terms of new car sales in Southeast Asia. Sales were lower in other countries in the region.
In Vietnam, Ford ranked fourth in sales behind local EV-maker VinFast, South Korea’s Hyundai and Japan’s Toyota.
It mostly focused on high-clearance models, particularly the Ranger pickup truck, which it either assembled in Vietnam or imported wholly from Thailand.
The Ranger dominated the pickup truck market in Vietnam with a 75% share and sales of 17,508 units last year, up 8% from 2023.
Other models like the Territory, Everest, and Transit also performed well in 2024, partly thanks to promotions offered by Ford and dealerships. The Everest, a D-segment SUV, led the segment with sales of over 10,000 units.
The Explorer, an E-segment SUV, had the lowest sales among Ford’s offerings, 689, but that represented more than double the 2023 sales.
