An agreement to waive visa requirements for Vietnamese and Belarusians holding common passports will be effective starting Jan. 30.

The visa exemption agreement was signed on Dec. 8, 2023 by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and her Belarusian counterpart Evgeny Shestakov. The agreement will be implemented at the end of this month, the foreign ministry said in a recent statement.

Under the agreement, Vietnamese passport holders can stay in Belarus without a visa for up to 30 days per entry, with a maximum stay of 90 days within a year. Belarusian citizens will benefit from the same conditions when visiting Vietnam.

The two countries had previously signed a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports in 1993. Since 2015, all Belarusian citizens have been allowed to enter Vietnam visa-free.

“The visa exemption agreement for common passport holders between Vietnam and Belarus marks a new step in the two countries’ friendly relations, and opens new opportunities for cooperation in several fields,” the foreign ministry said.
