Hyderabad: Chris Columbus, the original director of the famed Harry Potter franchise, talks about his excitement for the brand new HBO reboot, saying, “A fabulous idea” on account of how it might be able to capture the richness of J.K. Rowling’s novels a great deal better. He mentioned that the constraints of film runtimes made it impossible to put many of the things in the books into the first films.

“Our movie was two hours and forty minutes, and for other nearly the same length. I think it’s amazing that now they rotate episodes for every book,” Columbus remarked. To him, the episodic format will provide an opportunity for the series to fit in “all the great scenes we couldn’t fit in the movies.”

Jumping straight into production in 2025 for a release in 2026 and covering a season for each novel, HBO’s reboot announced in 2023 plans to replicate the novels in all respects. The show is directed by Mark Mylod, a veteran of Succession and Game of Thrones, and Francesca Gardiner will be in charge of writing.

The hunt is on for the central characters of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, while Voldemort cast speculation dances around with Columbus throwing his weight behind fan favourite Cillian Murphy. “Cillian is one of my favorite actors, so that would be amazing,” he said.

There is already enormous anticipation on the part of fans for the very detailed dive back into the wizarding world with a story built on the very foundations of the books they love.
