Indonesia Floods: 17 people died in sudden floods in Java, Indonesia, search operation continues

Indonesia Floods : Rescue teams resumed rescue operations on Wednesday after flash floods and landslides hit Indonesia's main island Java. According to reports, at least 17 people died in this flood. In Pekalongan Regency, Central Java Province, water from flooded rivers entered nine villages and torrential rains on Monday caused a flood disaster. Many settlements in the hilly areas collapsed due to landslides following the strong flow of water everywhere. National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Abdul Muhari said the floods caused landslides that buried two houses and a cafe in the Petungkriyono resort area.

According to reports, the disaster destroyed 25 houses, a dam and three main bridges connecting villages in Pekalongan. As of Wednesday, at least 17 people were dead, nine were missing and 13 were injured, Muhari said. About 300 people were forced to move into temporary government shelters.

Search and rescue operations, hampered by bad weather, landslides and rough terrain, were halted on Tuesday afternoon due to heavy rain and dense fog. The devastated areas along the rivers became dangerous for rescue workers.
