Who is worshiped in Mahakumbh?
Let us tell you that Mahakumbh is related to the churning of the ocean. According to mythology, during the churning, one of the fourteen gems, Amrit Kalash, was found. There was a war between the gods and demons over this nectar pot, due to which some drops of nectar fell on the earth. Mahakumbh started because of these drops.
Jalabhishek of Mahadev
Apart from this, at the time of churning, the first poison that came out was Halahal, which Lord Shiva kept in his throat. To cool down the heat of the poison, sages and gods performed Jalabhishek of Mahadev. This is the reason why special worship of Bholenath is done in Mahakumbh.
Worship of Lord Vishnu and Mother Ganga
Let us tell you that to protect the nectar pot, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini and distributed nectar among the gods. That is why Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi are also worshipped. Along with this, worship of Mother Ganga has special significance.
