The arrested Bangladeshi citizen was scared after seeing his photo on TV, planned to flee to Bangladesh

Mumbai Saif Ali Khan: Bangladeshi man arrested for knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan got scared after seeing his picture on TV. He was planning to flee his country. Police officials informed about this. The 30-year-old attacker had asked his brother in Bangladesh to send him documents, leading police to believe he was a resident of the neighboring country. The name of the accused is Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Faqir. He changed his name to Vijay Das.

He was arrested on Sunday after a thorough investigation of CCTV footage. In this footage he was seen on a bike on January 9, a week before the attack. A few days later, he entered Saif's house in Bandra and stabbed Saif several times with a knife. The actor was admitted to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent two surgeries. Now Saif has been discharged and the doctor has advised him to take care of himself.

Various teams of Mumbai Police scanned footage from different parts of the city to gather evidence. Initially the police faced challenges in locating the attacker. Shahzad, a resident of Jhalokati, Bangladesh (Saif Ali Khan), was living in Mumbai for the last five months and was doing odd jobs and was associated with a cleaning agency. Officials said they identified him from his picture captured in the CCTV camera. In the footage received by the police, he was seen riding a bike through an intersection in Andheri on January 9. Police traced the owner of the bike on the basis of its number. Then the police got the mobile number of the attacker. After this the police started keeping an eye on him.

These digital records helped police trace him to the police station and search teams were deployed in and around the area, officials said. Ultimately the accused was found in a dense mangrove area of Hiranandani Estate in Thane. According to the information given by the officials, during interrogation, Shahzad told that he was very scared after seeing his photo on news channels and social media. He claimed that he was planning to flee to Bangladesh. It will be seen whether the fingerprints found near the 'duct' and bathroom window at the crime scene match the fingerprints of the accused or not.
