SuryaKumar Yadav drops a massive statement on his Champions Trophy snub
The T20I captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, feels rather slightly about not being in the selected squad for the Champions Trophy, really sad that he has not done enough for himself to earn the selection. He felt the team did good without him and that he was happy for the selected players.
Some might think that Suryakumar being considered by many as the best T20 batter from India couldn’t quite cut it in the ODI format. He received considerable backing from Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma from 2021 till 2023 and made his World Cup participation, scoring only 773 at a mere average of 25.77 in 35 matches.
“Why would it hurt? If I had been in great form, I would have been considered for the Champions Trophy,” Suryakumar told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday, a day ahead of India’s T20I against England. “If not having performed very well, it is important to accept it. And at the same time, if you see the squad for the Champions Trophy, it is really looking good. All those selected are great performers in the recent past, not only for India but also in domestic cricket, and I am very happy for them.”
“That hurts: I had not done well, and if I had done well, I would have been there. If I haven’t done well, someone who truly deserved it and was fantastic should be there.”
Dropped just after the World Cup for scoring a highest of 49 and faced a barrage of criticism for his knock of 18 runs off 28 deliveries in the final against Australia.
‘Fun to see them bowl again’: Suryakumar .
The T20I captain also touched upon India’s bowling combination looking more formidable with Jasprit Bumrah back (if he recovers from injury) and Shami returning.
“For sure, they would have played a lot of cricket together. They are experienced bowlers and whenever you play for India, there is nothing like it. It is a different feeling, a different emotion. You just know there is added responsibility and that you love playing. So, it’ll be fun to see them bowling again together. As so far they have done superbly in the 2023 ODI World Cup. And fingers crossed for the same in the upcoming Champions Trophy.”
