T20I: Abhishek Sharma scored 79 runs in 34 balls, India beat England by 7 wickets

Mumbai Mumbai. Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series by defeating England by 7 wickets. Abhishek Sharma scored the highest 79 runs. The Men in Blue achieved the target of 132 runs with 43 balls remaining. Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma added 41 runs for the first wicket. Samson started aggressively and dismissed Gus Atkinson for 22 runs in a single over. However, Archer brought England back into the match by first dismissing Samson and then captain Suryakumar Yadav for a duck.

However, Abhishek Sharma scored a half-century in just 20 balls and shared an 84-run partnership with Tilak Verma to keep India headed towards victory. Abhishek was eventually out after scoring 79 runs off 34 balls, after which Tilak Verma ended the innings with 19 not out off 16 balls. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma got India off to a fast start, but Jofra Archer not only broke the 41-run opening partnership but also dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for a duck.

Team India's spinners dominated and restricted England's batting lineup during the IND vs ENG 1st T20I at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. Arshdeep Singh's early strike put England on the back foot as he dismissed Ben Duckett and Phil Salt. The left-arm fast bowler also became India's highest wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game.

Varun Chakravarthy caused further damage by dismissing the well-set Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone in his first over. Brook and Butler took over the innings by making a partnership of 48 runs for the third wicket.

Jos Buttler held the first wicket at one end, while the rest of England's batsmen failed to score runs. Eventually the pressure came to Butler, who was dismissed by Chakravarthy for 68 runs off 44 balls while trying to speed up the innings. For India, Varun Chakravarthy took 3 wickets for 23 runs, while Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya Took two wickets each. Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets in the space of three balls as England faltered in Kolkata. They have lost 4 wickets within the first 10 overs.
