CAB president extends support to Gautam Gambhir amid team India’s slump performance
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehashish Ganguly believes that India’s Head Coach Gautam Gambhir should be given more time in light of the team’s recent poor run of form.
After wielding a substantial authority in 2024, by steering Kolkata Knight Riders to the Indian Premier League title, Gambhir has not got off to a wonderful start in the ODI and Test formats.
The Men in Blue were tightly scrutinized mainly due to the manner in which they suffered defeats in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, the home Test series against New Zealand, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia. This process led Gambhir to create a series of unwanted records: including India’s first ODI series loss to Sri Lanka in 27 years, its first home whitewash in 24 years, and its first series loss to Australia in a decade, respectively.
But Ganguly thinks the coach requires more time and even said that Gambhir’s success with KKR after a decade signifies his quality. This statement comes in an environment where rumors about rifts within the Indian dressing room are at an all-time high, but Ganguly still counters the coach.
“I am quite happy as I believe in him and his approach. He converted KKR into a winning team only after a long gap of 12 years. We definitely should give him some time; since he has taken over, around two months have passed,” Ganguly told ANI.
Now India moves on from here and totally keeps an eye out. India will probably be looking forward to its forthcoming series versus England with white-ball cricket. It is remarkable for their ultra-preparation for Champions Trophy 2025: another tournament which will rescue them. The restoration of dignity back home will now be accomplished there for the Indians. The English series will kick off with a 5-match T20 series, with the first game held at some familiar ground, the Eden Gardens Kolkata. After that will follow a 3-match ODI series in which stars such as Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are expected to come back and get their preparation started.
If not missing it, the Indian team is getting a very significant booster as 2023 ODI World Cup hero, and bowler Mohammed Shami might make a return after a long year. Ganguly is anxiously waiting to see that fabulous man in national colors along with the hope of salvation.
“So the Kolkata crowd would come with Mohammed Shami into the game,” Ganguly responded.
After a year he came back; he bowled really well for Bengal. I was having an eye on his bowling, and he seems to be great in shape. He looks like the old Mohammed Shami-fitter and raring to go, “he added.
