Good news for Mukesh Ambani as Jio adds 12 lakh subscribers in just…, Bad news for Sunil Mittal as Airtel loses…

As Mukesh Ambani led Jio has added more subscribers in the month of November, its rival Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL lost subscribers during the same period.

After four months of decline, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has reversed the trend and witnessed significant growth in its subscriber base. According to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio added 12.1 lakh wireless subscribers in November 2024, bringing its total user base to an impressive 46.12 crore. This resurgence reinforces Jio’s position as India’s largest telecom operator.

Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL Subscriber Losses

While Jio experienced growth, its competitors struggled to retain their user base. Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Airtel saw its mobile subscriber count drop by 11.4 lakh, reducing its total user base to 38.4 crore. Similarly, Vodafone Idea continued to face challenges, losing 15 lakh users and ending the month with 20.8 crore subscribers.

Even Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), which had previously gained subscribers in recent months, reported a decline. BSNL’s wireless subscriber base fell by 3.4 lakh in November, leaving it with 9.20 crore users. The state-owned telecom company had initially benefited from tariff hikes by private operators in July 2024, which encouraged some users to switch to its services.

Market Share Snapshot

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel dominate India’s telecom market with 40.15% and 33.45% market shares, respectively. Vodafone Idea holds a 15% share, while BSNL has an 8.03% share.

BSNL’s Push for Growth

BSNL is steadily expanding its presence by rolling out 4G services across key markets, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and most state capitals. The company aims to complete its 4G expansion across all telecom circles by June 2025, providing stiff competition to Jio and Airtel, which already offer extensive 5G services across India.

Jio’s Winning Streak

Jio’s ability to add over 12 lakh users in just 30 days underscores its robust strategy and market appeal. As competition intensifies in India’s telecom sector, Jio’s consistent growth reaffirms its leadership position while setting the stage for further expansion in the months ahead.
