Horror films often thrills all year round, whether you’re looking for chills on a warm afternoon or a frightening experience on a cold night. Today we will talk about one such film that received widespread critical acclaim for its unique style and the exceptional performances of the cast. This horror film resonated with the viewers for its originality and became a standout entry in the psychological horror genre. We are talking about Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s Brahmayugam. Helmed by Rahul Sadasivan, the film also starred Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan in key roles.

Bramayugam unfolds in deserted estate in late 18th-century Kerala. The deep jungles, a profound sense of isolation, and the intense environment contribute to the overall atmospheric tension. Shot in black-and-white visually striking and unconventional look, the monochromatic images add to the feeling of isolation. The film builds tension through psychological elements rather than relying solely on traditional horror tones. It delves deeper into the human psyche and seamlessly ties the paranormal with the emotional traumas of human mind.

Superstar Manmoothy plays a menacing antagonist. He is seen as an evil black magician and looks exceptional in an aged getup. On the other hand, Arjun Ashokan, and Sidharth Bharathan deliver compelling and intense performances. Their portrayal as two pawns trapped in a game of power and lies contributes to the film’s unsettling atmosphere.

Made in Rs 27.73 crore, the film earned Rs 85 crore globally. The film was a hit in Kerala and overseas, and was praised by critics and audience alike. After exact one month of theatrical run, Bramayugam made its ways on the OTT platform. For those who aren’t aware, the film is streaming on SonyLIV and is enjoying good viewership on the OTT platform.
