Special facility for disabled devotees in Mahakumbh, free treatment along with limb fitment.
In Mahakumbh, devotees are continuously gathering for the holy bath in Sangam. But many disabled people have a different reason for coming to Prayagraj – free treatment and fitment of artificial limbs. Amidst the tents of various sects and religious groups, a camp organized by Narendra Seva Sansthan, a Jaipur-based charitable organization, is serving the disabled devotees, which is commendable. Doctors are treating the disabled in the camp, while a team is taking measurements for the fitment of artificial limbs.
Disabled devotees arrived with hope of new life
Jaishankar Kumar, a resident of Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, had both his legs amputated two years ago due to severe infection. They have reached Mahakumbh with the hope of a new life. He told that life has not been the same for me since I lost both my legs. I walk with the help of ban. Doctors advised me to get artificial limbs, but these are expensive, which I cannot afford. When we came to know that these would be available here for free, my family and I decided to come to Kumbh. We will also take a holy bath.
Jaishankar Kumar's measurements have already been taken. He told that I have been asked to wait for 10 days and then the artificial limbs will be fitted. During this time, I am also being given physiotherapy, which is being done for free.
The cost of the artificial limb is approximately Rs 90,000. Many groups provide it at cheap prices, but this institute is providing it absolutely free. More than 50 people, including doctors, physiotherapists, prosthetics experts and technicians, are deployed in this camp to help the disabled. So far, measurements of more than 50 disabled people have been taken and they are being given artificial limbs or callipers (devices that help in walking).
Steps taken by the administration for the disabled
The Kumbh Mela administration has made special arrangements for the disabled. Facilities like special toilets at key places, ramps at railway ticket counters and important offices, Braille sign boards for visually impaired devotees and golf carts and e-rickshaws have been provided. At the same time, the organization believes that the work done in Kumbh leads to attaining immense virtue from religious and spiritual point of view and that is why they are providing free treatment and artificial limbs for the disabled.
