Mumbai. Ram Gopal Varma, who was celebrating the re-release of his film Satya, is now in trouble as he has been sentenced to three months in jail after a non-bailable warrant was issued in a check bounce case.
A case was registered against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who was in the news for his controversial statements, in 2018 for a film named 'Shree'. The director is facing some financial crisis, as he has not made any films in recent times and his previous films have also not performed well in the last few years. The filmmaker was released in 2022 after paying a cash security amount of Rs 5000.
According to the information, Mumbai Magistrate Court has now sentenced him to three months imprisonment in this check bounce case. The director was called for a hearing in the court on Tuesday, January 21. But he did not appear in the court. Thus, the court charged him under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The court has also directed the complainant to pay Rs 3.72 lakh as compensation. This act deals with dishonor of checks due to insufficient funds or exceeding the agreed payment amount. Apart from this, a non-bailable warrant has been issued for his arrest.
