Trump's big step: Entry of illegal immigrants will now be stopped

The US Senate has passed the Immigration Detention Bill aimed at curbing illegal immigrants. This bill is also known as “Laken Riley Act”. Now it is yet to be signed by former President Donald Trump. It will become law as soon as it is signed. This will be the first major law after Trump takes power.

First major law after Trump became President
Donald Trump has taken many tough decisions immediately after assuming the office of President, of which the Immigration Detention Bill is the biggest step. The purpose of this bill is to stop the infiltration of illegal immigrants into America and curb crime.

Why is it called 'Lacan Relay Act'?
This bill is related to the murder case of 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. In February last year, Laken was murdered by a Venezuelan national, Jose Antonio Ibarra. Ibarra had entered the United States illegally. This murder case created a stir in American politics. Making this incident an election issue, Trump also met the family of Laken Riley.

Immigration detention bill became an election issue
During the presidential election, Trump raised this issue prominently and described illegal immigrants as a source of crime. He had promised in his election campaign that he would completely stop the entry of illegal immigrants into America and expel them from the country. After the passing of this bill, it will now become impossible for illegal immigrants to enter America.

Bill passed with overwhelming support in Senate
The US Senate passed this bill with a majority of 263-156 votes. Under this, the policy of sending illegal immigrants back to the border will be implemented. It also said that strict action will be taken against illegal immigrants so that they do not get involved in crimes.

Donald Trump's new policies
Donald Trump has made many major changes in American policies as soon as he assumed the office of President. These include expelling illegal immigrants, revoking the citizenship of children, and reversing some of Joe Biden's decisions. Immediately after taking oath as President on January 20, he made his stance clear by changing several policies.

What is the Laken Riley case?
Laquen Riley was a nursing student at Augusta University in Georgia. He was murdered in 2022 by Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan citizen who entered the US illegally. This incident sparked a debate about illegal immigrants in the country and it became a major issue in the 2024 presidential elections.
