Mumbai : Famous filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been sentenced to three months in jail by a Mumbai court in the long-running check bounce case. This decision of the court has ended the legal battle that has been going on for many years. A non-bailable warrant has also been issued against him. Andheri Magistrate Court had fixed Tuesday (January 21) for the verdict in the check bounce case, a day before which the filmmaker will announce the syndicate of his upcoming film.

Rs 3.75 lakh will have to be paid

Apart from the jail sentence, Ram Gopal Verma will also have to pay Rs 3.75 lakh as compensation to the complainant and if he fails to do so within three months, he will be given an additional punishment of three months.

The case stems from a complaint filed in 2018 against the firm of Ram Gopal Varma by a company named Shree through Maheshchandra Mishra alleging that a check issued by Ram Gopal Varma bounced due to low amount Was. The director was granted bail in June 2022 after furnishing a personal bond and a security deposit of Rs 5,000. The magistrate clarified that there would be no 'set-off' under Section 428 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, as Ram Gopal Verma was not in custody during the trial. After several hearings and legal proceedings, the court ruled against the filmmaker and said there was enough evidence to prove the allegations.
