Ruled for 30 years
Sarkar Amman was later known as Sultan Jahan. He was born on 9 July 1858 in Bhopal. She was born in the house of Nawab Begum Sultan Shah Jahan and her husband rest of Muhammad Khan Bahadur. As the only living child of the Nawab of Bhopal, Sultan Jahan was declared the successor of Bhopal Mususad after the death of his grandmother Sikander Begum and his mother's throne in 1868. After the death of her mother in 1901, Sultan, where she sat on the throne of Bhopal and became the Nawab Begum of Dar-ul-Iqbal-e-Bhopal. Begum Sultan Jahan died in 1930. He ruled the kingdom for about 30 years.

Begum Sultan Jahan was the cousin of Saif Ali Khan. Sajida Sultan, the only son of Begum and daughter of successor Hamidullah Khan, was married to Pataudi's Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan. Who was Saif Ali's grandfather and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi's father. Mansoor later married actress Sharmila Tagore.
First Chancellor of AMU
Begum Sultan Jahan was appointed as its first Chancellor at the time of the establishment of AMU in 1920 and she held the position till her death in 1930. After his death, his son Hamidullah Khan sat on the throne and became the last Nawab of Bhopal. Nearly a decade after India's independence, he remained the Nawab in 1956 until the city merged into Madhya Pradesh.
