India-Indonesia Defense Relation: By strengthening its relations with Indonesia, India has shaken Pakistan as well as China. India has strengthened defense ties with Indonesia and engaged China in the Indian Ocean. On the other hand, it has given a huge blow to Pakistan by befriending Indonesia, the country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Experts have said that India is establishing closer ties with Asian countries to solve China’s challenge in the Indian Ocean. India is trying to reduce Chinese interference by strengthening defense and trade ties with Indo-Pacific countries. In this direction, strong relations with Indonesia will prove important in reducing China’s influence.

Will weaken Pakistan’s conspiracies

On the other hand, Pakistan is carrying out new conspiracies in collaboration with Islamic countries on the issue of Kashmir and minorities. But India’s friendship with Indonesia will weaken these conspiracies of Pakistan. Prime Minister Modi paid an official visit to Indonesia in 2018. Both the countries have partnered to establish bilateral relations. Moreover, Modi had met President Prabowo in Rio-de-Janeiro last year.

Increased cooperation in every field

India and Indonesia signed an MoU in 2018 to strengthen defense ties. Later the armies of both the countries started joint military exercises. In 1997 it also became involved in the space sector. India exports medicines and medical equipment to Indonesia. The President of Indonesia will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, they will discuss topics like politics, defence, security cooperation, trade etc. Many other trade agreements are also possible.

Indonesia guest special for the fourth time

India has invited the President of Indonesia as the chief guest for its 76th Republic Day celebrations. President Prabowo Subianto will attend as the chief guest for the fourth time. In this visit, India can finalize the decision to sell BrahMos cruise missile to Indonesia. However, this is Prabowo’s first visit to India after becoming the President. Along with Subianto, a 352-member marching and band contingent will also participate in the Republic Day parade. For the first time, an Indonesian marching and band troupe will participate in the country’s national celebrations.

BrahMos will protect Indo-Pacific countries

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile manufactured in India will provide security cover to many countries in the Indo-Pacific region as well as self-defense against China. After Philippines, now Indonesia is also going to buy BrahMos missile from India. Two other countries, Malaysia and Vietnam, have shown interest, while positive signals are also coming from Thailand. According to sources, during the visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to India, a $450 million BrahMos purchase deal between the two countries may be approved.

According to defense expert Captain DK Sharma, be it Philippines or Indonesia, all these countries are concerned about the activities of Chinese ships in the southern part of the Indian Ocean (South China Sea). Chinese ships try to establish monopoly by entering the maritime boundaries of these countries. The situation is such that fishermen of these countries cannot catch fish in their waters. Since the defense power of these countries is weak till now, they are increasing their strength to counter the aggression of Chinese ships. For this reason, Philippines first bought BrahMos missile and now Indonesia is also going to buy it. There is a possibility of it being purchased from more countries in future.
