PM Modi Putin Meeting: The beginning of a new chapter in India-Russia relations was witnessed on Thursday evening, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin for dinner at his official residence 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The Prime Minister’s residence was decorated with flags of India and Russia and attractive lights on this occasion, making it a highlight of the visit itself.

President Putin has reached India on a two-day state visit. The most remarkable scene was when Prime Minister Modi himself reached Palam Airport to receive him. The two leaders left the airport together in the same car, further strengthening the decades-old strategic partnership and personal closeness between the two countries.

Another important milestone in friendship

After the welcome, both the leaders also watched the cultural program and applauded the performances of the artists. In July 2024, Putin hosted Prime Minister Modi at his official residence Novo-Ogaryovo in Moscow, and this meeting in New Delhi is considered another important milestone in that friendship.

Expressing happiness over Putin’s arrival at Xi, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “It is a great pleasure to welcome my friend President Putin to India. I look forward to the talks on Thursday evening and Friday. India-Russia friendship has stood the test of time and has been extremely beneficial for the people of both the countries.”

The 23rd India-Russia annual summit to be held on Friday holds special significance, because this year the two countries are completing 25 years of strategic partnership. During this, wide-ranging issues related to politics, trade, economy, defence, science-technology, energy, culture and humanitarian fields will be discussed. Both the leaders will also discuss globalization, regional security and international situation.

Putin will be formally welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday morning, followed by representative-level talks at Hyderabad House. At the end of the meeting, a joint statement is expected to be issued and several bilateral agreements are expected to be signed.

Putin will also meet President Draupadi Murmu and pay his respects by laying a floral wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial. According to experts, this visit can take India-Russia relations forward as well as set a new strategic direction in global politics.
