Sports News: Although former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has retired from T20I cricket, he is still interested in playing domestic cricket. According to a Times of India report, Rohit has expressed interest in playing for Mumbai in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) competitions. This tournament, to be held in Indore from December 12 to December 18, is the biggest stage of domestic T20 tournaments.

Currently, Rohit is part of the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. The final match of this series will be held on Saturday 6th December, after which they will be able to participate in SMAT Knockout competitions.

Rohit Sharma returns to Mumbai team

Rohit Sharma has expressed interest in playing for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournaments, quoting Mumbai Cricket Association sources. Currently, Mumbai team in Elite Group A is at the first position with 16 points after winning four matches in the league stage held in Lucknow. In this situation, the team is almost certain to reach the knockout round.

Along with Rohit, experienced players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shiv Dubey are also in the team, they play an important role in strengthening Mumbai. Rohit’s arrival will be of great benefit to the team’s morale and technical strength alike.

BCCI domestic cricket rules

Earlier this year, the BCCI had introduced a rule that any Indian player who is not in the national team or is recovering from injury must play in domestic cricket. According to this rule, Rohit also wants to play for Mumbai, it will help in providing guidance to the young players and increase the strength of the team.

Rohit Sharma is currently in good form. In the ODI series against South Africa, he has scored 57 and 14 runs respectively. However, his focus in domestic T20 cricket is now on the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.

Rohit Sharma is the first batsman to score a century for India in T20 cricket. He scored 101 runs for Mumbai against Gujarat in the 2007 SMAT series and hit a century. So far, Rohit has scored 12,248 runs, 8 centuries, 82 half-centuries in 463 T20 matches. Similarly, in international T20 cricket, he has scored 4,231 runs from 159 matches.
